Wanna Wanna Waa

The Good:
Husband is well enough to work again.
Husband starts his second job this week.
We get to see family for Thanksgiving.
Penny never got the strep throat illness the rest of us had.
Elliot has started using the potty regularly.
Hand-washing dishes is therapeutic.

The Bad:
Husband starts his second job this week (wait...didn't I already mention that?)
Elliot transitioned from strep throat to a head cold.
Penny caught the head cold.
Our dishwasher no longer drains (again) and I have LOTS of dishes that need washing.

The Ugly:
Despite recent potty-training successes, Elliot has pooped his pants twice this morning.
I am covered in snot.
Showering....? When do mothers really do this?
Rather than hand-washing dishes, I am blogging.

  3. Yay for jobs!
Thumbs down that I have not seen you for a year. Right? A year? Wasn't it last Thanksgiving when you exited stage south?
I'm trying to make you feel better by not showering today!
    xoxo

  4. i echo both the ladies above.
And I love the idea of this post. Perfect way to explain the feelings.

And did someone say bread machine?!?

  5. Thanks for the virtual shoulder pat, Teal! Yes, Hooray for jobs!!!! No more unemployment EVER please!!

Axon - Thanks. All things considered, the scale is still quite tipped on the "good" side =) Especially as the bread machine is now on my counter awaiting exploration.

Leah - Seriously, one year. It's crazy. We need to get together for a cup-o-moo. You need to meet Princess P. We need to discuss, theoretically, if we could ever name a future son "Cornelius" (no, NOT pregnant, and not planning on it anytime soon or possibly ever). So many things, like, can I make a traditional sourdough in a bread machine? I Miss you!

Meg - Yes, bread machine! Thanks for the Freecycle tip. I had a similar "good, bad" list on my FB status, and that one mentioned the bread machine, which I somehow forgot to mention here.

  7. On the Ugly's:
A: At least there is no poo on E's bed (that was Kate's spot of choice to leave a prize).
B: Ponytails count as a shower
C: Rather than sweep/vacuum/fold laundry I am reading blogs.

  8. Oh Laurie! Just what I needed today. Thanks.

A: Oh Kate....on the bed?! I'll take it in the pants over the bed any day.
    B: Well then I'm good!
C: Awesome. Rather than getting to the dishes now that all the kids are in bed....I am stalking you and Summer on FB.

  9. hee hee hee. this is THE perfect post for me to read before bed tonight. I can echo in on the ugly...Indy is fully potty trained...has been for OVER A YEAR but lately she's decided she "doesn't mind being a tad wet"
so she pees...rendering her clothing useless for a second wear...enter ridiculous amounts of laundry thankyouverymuch.

Upside....my husband has a full 40 hour work week with one job and his usual with the other so we might be able to cover rent in Dec!!! woo hoo.
    now...finding Eugene gas money :):);)
    it'll happen.
I'm excited for the bread maker...I want one but if I don't have someone like you to show me the how to I'm not sure I'd ever use it:)
Snot can give a pretty sheen to clothes and showers, though not over rated, are over used...you just get to revel in the value when they do come along.
    love love love.

  10. All - I just realized that my post title could be read as "I want to want to 'waa'" as in cry. I just thought I should clarify that I was trying to capture the eerie western music from the movie "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". Perhaps an unnecessary clarification, but I just wanted to make sure no one was worried the snot and dishwasher might make me cry. No, at least not today =)

Summer - I love you. A good end to my day too! Indy doesn't mind being "a little wet?!" Hilarious. Yea for more work for Colin! Our fingers are crossed for Dec. rent too (and certain gas monies). Here's hoping for indulgent showers tomorrow.

  12. So sorry to hear about all the snot and the potty-training woes and the dishwasher. I agree that hand-washing is therapeutic, but it's definitely better in moderation.

I hope everyone's feeling better and that Andrew's first day on the new job went well. We should get together for a walk or play date soon, maybe next week?

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. Abby! Were you at the park by my house today? I thought I saw you as I was walking home for lunch, but I didn't have time to stop and check. We'd love a walk next week.

There's a bit of congestion left, but I am hoping some farm air and Turkey (and a carcass to bring home for broth) will cure us all.

Andrew's first days have gone well, and he doesn't have to work again until Sunday, which is nice. I think he's leaning toward learning French (I told him that was your recommendation)....but feeling like he should do German since I took German in college and could actually practice with him.

Washed dishes for a hour or so with the boys yesterday and now we're almost caught up! AND our lovely landlady said we can have $100 toward finding a replacement.

Things are certainly looking brighter. Happy Thanksgiving to you guys too!

  14. doesn't your land lady kind of HAVE to pay for it to be fixed? Cause she owns it?
    Or replace it?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Meg - I suppose so =) But last time it happened she just sent someone out, and it was a temporary fix. I am excited for a replacement!

    ReplyDelete
  16. yeah I'd go for a replacement too :)

  17. Hope you guys had a happy Thanksgiving! It probably was me at the park. I feel like I live over there lately, right next to that swing. What time do you guys go? Maybe we'll try to get over there at the same time.

  18. Abby - We try to shoot for between 10-11, but lately it's been SO cold we're staying indoors until 4 and then only exploring the backyard. Tomorrow looks to be slightly warmer, want to try for a 10:00 date?!

  19. Oops. I just saw this. We made it over there around 11:30, but we have bold plans to get out earlier next week. Definitely email me if you're planning to go, and we'll try to head over there too.
