The Cherokee jeans again (dealing with a limited amount of pants that fit that are not jamma-like)
Her Mary Janes from Bugaboo
Today I got my new glasses. However, I realized that something is wrong with one of the lenses, so I stopped wearing them shortly after I started. The left side makes everything tilted as if that side of the room is higher as well as squishing everything a bit so that nothing is square. Made me feel a little crazy!
Silk, Old Navy maternity tank from 2004
Wool, Eddie Bauer cardigan from....possibly the 80's? Handed down from my mother.
Pants from Jones New York circa 1999
DKNY green tights (yes, tights under pants, it's cold today)
Orange Keen flats (not great for the weather, but quite practical because I keep snuggling up on the couch with books and boys and kicking off my shoes)
New Glasses - The cutest ones I could grab off the "approved" shelf of ugly glasses that my insurance covers while my sons tried hard not to "explore" all the other shelves.
Earrings from Ann Taylor, gifted from my husband on my first mother's day (so, 2005?)
Necklace from Clair's, bought with this friend during a 2004 "20 for $10 sale" for all of 50 cents!
get out! jewelry from our 2004 trip to Claire's...I remember it well. And I say, postpartum - wear whatever pants are comfortable!
ReplyDeleteMeg - Oh yeah! Good memories. We might have to do it again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pants permission =)
(Autumn...do you read this? You probably think they should go, right?)
hahahahahahahaha. Autumn will so say yes they should go but I lean towards Meg's advice.
ReplyDeleteAll of the pants Autumn has given me are about 2 sizes smaller than I'd normally buy so her opinion might be a tad bit biased in the baggy department...she just will not stand for baggy!
I don't think they look bad though a little more fitted would accentuate your body better...still if they are comfortable I would not ditch them all together...you know there are days that you SO need a pair of go to pants like that.
Okay, really guys, NO comment on the fact that I am wearing never-before-seen glasses?
ReplyDeletePoor Autumn, holding her tongue here. If I had a million dollars I would seriously hire a personal shopper and gay man personal shopper. Yes.
I wonder where my own sister is in all of this. I think she would decimate me. She and Autumn should be friends!
Body accentuation was something I avoided for so long (growing up in the Nirvana era combined with Baptist church background). I wore plenty of tight shirts in high school because I was young and stupid and didn't understand what "sexy" really implied, but I don't know where the middle ground is as a near 30-year-old (who fully realizes what "sexy" is).
My bigger problem is that I can't afford clothing, even thrifted, at the moment and my body has changed considerably given all the people it's been growing. So I make due and wear a lot of cardigans apparently.
Funny thing about the pants, they are actually QUITE fitted on the hips and stomach. My shirts just don't show it (seriously, and they sit at about my belly button...who wants to see all that?)
you know, I almost added a PS comment about your glasses and then didn't! They are so unobtrusive they really don't change your look as much as I expected them to. They are cute...though I'd get that issue checked out...I remember having a time of adjusting and feeling like the world should be more round instead of warped in my glasses but that passed after a couple of days...but I never had what you are describing.
ReplyDeleteyou can't call them "fitted" on the hips and stomach and also say they "sit at my belly button"...cause now I have to tell you to throw them out...they're like MOM JEANS!!!
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't start tucking a shirt in I wouldn't worry about it :P But on the other hand, if they aren't baggy in the waist and hips then WHY wear them?!? Baggy leg pants aren't worth it in my book.
But Summer is right, the binding is working, cause you sure don't look like you need baggy waist pants.
And maybe your life long nerd status makes the glasses seem like they've always been there?
I bet I'll think it looks odd in person though.
Okay, good to know the glasses aren't too obtrusive. I feel like they totally change my face, but Andrew thinks they are cute. I think he also knows better than to say anything to the contrary as he grew up with 4 sisters. Good man.
ReplyDeleteThe pants, though fitted, are not tight, so they are quite comfortable AND they stay on and up. I have to wear this crazy abdominal brace thing, and it basically pushes down all my pants that sit on my hips so that I look a bit like a plumber. Not a great look, especially if I go out in public =)
Why is it that glasses always give one a more studious look? I agree with Meg - it is a natural look for you!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow - vision insurance, huh? That's fabulous.
Mel - Thanks for the added vote of confidence. I think the book shelf behind me probably helps push the look toward studious.
ReplyDeleteOne more week of great insurance. We were on state insurance for the pregnancy and it carries 2 months past birth to cover pregnancy related issues (like the loss of your normal vision). I need to get the glasses issue wrapped up this week!
as long as they aren't mom jeans, then I approve. Some day I want to see your new binding thingy. It intrigues me.
ReplyDeleteIf you hadn't had a baby just weeks ago....then they would need to go. Otherwise, live it up (for about 8 more weeks), then toss!
ReplyDeleteAutumn - Thanks for chiming in =) Considering I wear them about once a year, I should be able to let them go without much pain.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking I should probably take a photograph of myself wearing every single item in my closet and just email them to you. You can tell me what I am allowed to keep, and then I can finally have a purged closet.
Or perhaps Summer or Meg could come over and offer such a service?
haha! I think we ALL should do this. I tried to purge using a couple of criteria.
ReplyDelete1. when was the last time you wore it? If it was over 6 months (or I do a year on some things) then toss it.
(some people say if you haven't worn it in a month then toss it.)
2. Will it fit me for the next 6 months with a growing belly, and if no, will I WANT to wear it in another year?
Since Andy's the only 'judge' besides me that says if something looks good or not, I don't usually have a lot to go on except for my gut.
careful careful meg, don't get rid of anything that won't fit now. I did that mistakenly at the start of my pregnancy because basically EVERYTHING looks frumpy and awkward, but as soon as the babe turned into a big bump, lots of things got much more adorable that I ever thought!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Marianne we should have a big fat closet purge, or swap would be even better!!
